An Invisible Woman Series Feature

There are some people in this world who don’t just walk through life—they shine through it. In order to protect this impecable woman, I will will call her "Betty," because "Betty" is one of those people.

To those who know her, no explanation is needed. You already see it—the quiet strength, the unwavering love, the way she carries herself with grace even when life has asked more of her than it ever should have. And to those who don’t know her, let me introduce you to one of the most extraordinary women I have ever had the privilege of calling a friend.

Betty became a single mother in her twenties, raising her daughter with a fierce kind of love that only comes from someone who has had to fight for every piece of peace in their life. But her journey into single motherhood was not simple—it was born from courage.

The kind of courage that comes when you are at the very end of your rope.

The kind of courage it takes to leave an abusive marriage.

Around that same time, Betty lost her father—a loss that shook her deeply. She held tightly to her faith, not just as belief, but as a lifeline. It was her connection to him, her way of holding on, her way of making sense of the world while everything around her felt like it was falling apart.

But life became even more complicated.

Betty carried a quiet truth within her—something she had known since she was young. A truth that didn’t fit the “cookie cutter” version of what she had always been taught a “good person” was supposed to be. So she tried to fit the mold. She tried to stay. She tried to make it work—for her father, for her daughter, for everything she had been taught to believe.

And for a long time, she did.

Until she couldn’t anymore.

When her husband stepped away from their shared faith, it cracked something open. It created space—space for questions, for truth, and eventually, for Betty to begin finding herself. But even then, leaving wasn’t simple. Abuse doesn’t just let go.

Betty stayed longer than she should have had to. She endured more than anyone ever should.

And then, in an unexpected turn—one that could have broken her—everything changed.

Her husband found someone else and cast her aside.

But what was meant to diminish her… became her freedom.

In that moment, Betty walked away—not empty-handed, but with everything that mattered most: her daughter, her strength, and the beginning of a new life.

And what she built from there is nothing short of beautiful.

Betty found love again—not the kind that fits neatly into expectations, but the kind that is real, kind, and deeply rooted in respect. Her partner stepped into her life and into her daughter’s life with an open heart, choosing them fully, loving them fiercely, and building a family that may not look “traditional” to the outside world—but is whole in every way that matters.

Because what they have isn’t defined by a mold.

It’s defined by love.

Today, Betty is finishing her teaching degree. Not because she has to—but because she wants to. Because she believes in standing on her own, in building a future for her family, and in making a difference in the lives of others.

And she will.

Because Betty is the kind of teacher who doesn’t just educate—she sees people. She understands struggle. She leads with empathy, with resilience, and with a heart that has been shaped by both loss and love.

She is a remarkable mother. A devoted partner. A loyal friend. And one day, a truly unforgettable teacher.

Betty is going to change the world—quietly, steadily, one heart at a time.

Not because she set out to.

But because that’s simply who she is.

And that is why I call her my friend.
