Sometimes, the most powerful stories are the ones that challenge what we think we know.
Raymond, Alberta is often described as competitive. Driven. Intense.
And maybe, in some ways, that’s true.
But that’s not what I saw.
What I Witnessed
I had the opportunity to visit one of Raymond’s highly successful schools—and what I experienced there was something I will not forget.
I saw inclusion.
Not as a concept. Not as a policy. But as something fully lived.
I saw neurotypical children high-fiving neurodivergent students in the hallways.
I saw students genuinely excited to see one another.
I saw neurodivergent individuals moving confidently throughout the school—belonging, not just existing.
I saw hugs. I saw connection. I saw real, authentic love.
A Culture That Welcomes Everyone
What stood out most was not just the students—
It was the entire system surrounding them.
Teachers. Support staff. Administrators. Parents. Community members.
All working together.
Not perfectly—but intentionally.
I saw classrooms where multiple forms of accommodation were not only present, but supported by everyone involved.
I saw programs designed not for some students—
But for all students.
And that matters.
Because true inclusion isn’t about making space.
It’s about creating belonging.
Beyond the Reputation
Every community has its quirks.
Every place carries stories—some fair, some not.
But my role is not to amplify shortcomings.
My role is to shine a light on what is working.
On what is good.
On what is quietly changing lives every single day.
And what I saw in Raymond was this:
A community choosing kindness. A community choosing inclusion. A community choosing to see every child as worthy.
A Model Worth Noticing
What if more communities looked like this?
What if more schools led with connection instead of comparison?
What if more children grew up in spaces where differences were not just accepted—but celebrated?
Raymond is doing something right.
And it deserves to be seen.
To the Community of Raymond
To the administrators, educators, staff, parents, and community members:
You are building something meaningful.
You are creating spaces where children feel safe, valued, and included.
You are shaping not only strong students—but compassionate human beings.
And that matters far beyond your town.
It matters for all of us.
An Invisible Hero
Because sometimes, invisible heroes aren’t just individuals—
Sometimes, they are entire communities.
Raymond, Alberta—
we see you.
Keep being kind. Keep being inclusive. Keep being exactly who you are.
Because what you are building—
is making Canada better.
