My Short Stories
Short Story Writing Description
My short stories are rooted in lived experience, drawing from the complex realities of navigating life as a single mother balancing home, work, education, and the ongoing demands of daily life. Through deeply personal narratives, I explore the often-unseen dimensions of caregiving, resilience, and survival within the context of family transformation.
A central theme throughout my work is invisibility—particularly the emotional labour that exists beneath the surface of motherhood. I examine what it means to carry the mental, emotional, and logistical weight of raising five children while enduring the strain of a high-conflict divorce. These stories bring forward the quiet, unrecognized work that sustains families, often without acknowledgment or support.
My writing also reflects the layered realities of parenting a child with diverse needs, and the ripple effects this has on the entire family dynamic. I explore how systems, expectations, and social perceptions can both support and isolate families, and how children and parents alike navigate those pressures in different ways.
Through storytelling, I aim to give voice to experiences that are frequently overlooked or misunderstood. My work seeks not only to share my own journey, but to create space for others who may feel unseen—to validate their experiences, challenge societal assumptions, and foster empathy, awareness, and connection.
